With the current geo-political uncertainty in the world, the number of EU citizens working in the UK saw its largest drop in 5 years by 50,000 in the last quarter of 2016.*
Therefore, now more than ever, we need to build even more robust local talent pipelines and develop employees within the workplace to a higher level in a bid to fill skill gaps. The benefits of this type of up-skilling, particularly in the workplace are many, including cost savings and increased productivity.
The Swindon and Wiltshire LEP Higher Futures programme brings tailored university level training direct to businesses through its impartial higher level skills service. Higher Futures works in partnership with the UK’s class leading universities, colleges and providers and offers the very best training solutions to meet the business needs.
Higher Futures Manager Mandy Timbrell said:
We find that the projects the Higher Futures Brokers are working on with clients are ranging in extremes both in size and sector, which is good news as it indicates all types of businesses in the Swindon and Wiltshire area recognise the need to upskill their workforce if they are to move forward and grow.
"Together we are creating a sustainable, highly skilled workforce and we’re doing this in the workplace with the least disruption to either the business or the employee."
The Higher Futures service is free, offering a dedicated Account Manager who works with the business to tailor a solution, offering impartial information, advice and guidance. They will assess recruitment and workforce development skill gaps, evaluating existing internal training and further access to training, finally an action plan is developed and a provider chosen.
