Helena Taylor-Knox, Organisational Development Lead at Swindon Borough Council realised right from the initiation of the ‘Future Leaders Programme’ that at the heart of its success was a blended approach from the UK’s leading academics, leaders from the world of commerce and industry and the impartial brokerage skills of the team at Higher Futures.
The Higher Futures Employer and HEI Skills Broker worked with Helena to define the key training objectives and carried out a robust selection process to identify the most suitable provider to deliver the programme.
16 candidates from Swindon Borough Council were carefully chosen to embark on the bespoke ILM accredited leadership and management training delivered by the University of the West of England. Learners heard from a diverse field of nationally respected leaders including Ian Green, Chief Executive at Terrence Higgins Trust and Lieutenant Colonel Lucy Giles, Sandhurst’s first female Commander.
Going forward the success of the ‘Future Leaders Programme‘ has ensured its sustainability, with a view to a commercial roll-out to double the numbers in 2018-19. Not only is it seen as an established and respected training programme but as an incentive to recruit future leaders to work for Swindon Borough Council.
Mandy Timbrell, Higher Futures Manager said:
“Higher Futures is proud to have played a part in supporting Swindon Borough Council’s ‘Future Leaders Programme’ in identifying the most suitable training provider to deliver a first class programme. We will continue to work with the client, offering any further information, advice or support they may need.”
Helena Taylor-Knox, Organisational Development Lead at Swindon Borough Council said:
Sustainability, cost effective delivery and the need to deliver a programme of management development training that gave an insight into the challenges faced by highly respected leaders out on the frontline is key to the programme’s success.
